Visul meu îl trăiesc chiar acum/ Living the dream

English version below

***

When I was a little girl I was thinking that at the age of 25 it’s quite the right time, not too early or too late to have the most important things in life perfectly settled.

At the age of 15 I wanted to be a grown up in order to get rid of the school's obligations - and actually, to learn and read what I like, as much as I like it, when I like it. I wanted a kind of freedom but not the one you want in adolescence, but I wanted to be an adult sooner, to be in the lead of my own life and make it better. Now I'm glad I'm an adult ‘cause I can eat dessert before the meal and I can eat the same food (however unhealthy it is) as often as I want. And basically, I can stay up to watch movies until very late (I think, in fact, these are the biggest rewards of adult life :))

At 20, I thought there was a lot of time in front of me and I started to build in all directions, quite chaotic, hoping it would be good at some point.

When I was 23, I was in the process of growing - building. Perhaps more chaotic than ever, aiming for everything, heading towards anywhere. That's when I realized that the 25-year plan is not exactly a plan, but more of a dream that will come when it's going to happen.

Between 24 and 25 years, my chaotic way of building made me stop for a while to realize I'm confused and I'm not clear to where I'm going, and certainly I have no clue what’s the best way to get there.

I know there are no recipes for what and how to do. But I believe a lot in inner recipes, and in knowing that what you are doing is 'the right way' and that, at some point, you will look back with joy, thanking yourself for your choices. I have to admit that I have often doubted myself and what I was doing and what I was pursuing - I asked myself hundreds if not even a thousand times if I chose well, if the sacrifices were not too big, if it was worth it and if I will ever get there, where my dreams were aiming.
At the beginning of the year I made my luggage and took the chance to get back to NATO and to Brussels. Initially for 6 months. I was going to lay the foundation (again) of my future without being sure that this was the right direction to follow.

But somehow, a few months before I was 25, I had forgotten about the old idea of being settled at this age. Somehow, I was going to what I felt was good, and I think I finally understood that there are no deadlines in life, but there is a time for everything – although not when we want or decide, but there is the right time for certain things, certain experiences and certain people.

I truly wanted to share this story for you and for me - to realize that at 25, my life has found its way by itself. Of course, with a lot of help from all this effort that I’ve put into and much help from my closest and dearest people. Instead of 25 could have been 29, 33 or any other number would have suited the person I am. 25 was, apparently, my number.

At the age of 25, I have a man who left all his life behind him and moved with me to a country where he did not speak the language and where he had nothing set in terms of professional options. But he did it wholeheartedly, enrolled in a French course, and three months later he gave interviews in French and took a good job with immense responsibilities.

At the age of 25 - and more precisely on my birthday, I had my family with me and I took them to the place I love most in this world - Paris. It was my perfect gift - to be independent enough to take my parents to Paris and enjoy a glass of wine in Montmartre on April 25th to celebrate that we are together and that I have become a grown up.

At 25, I have a stable job for (at least) the next 3 years, in a place where I like to work every single day - a job that can not bore me for a second and where I have the finest bosses (who don’t even read my blog) and the best colleagues I could ever ask for.

At 25, I live in a quiet and bright apartment with a terrace full of flowers of all kinds. And, very important, I have a lot of pillows and fluffy blankets and scented candles.

And at the age of 25, the dream of being proposed in Porto, with all the beautiful port and  the Duoro river in the background - was fulfilled. Plain and simple - I think I was given the chance to live the most exciting and moving moment of my life so far. So I'm now engaged and more than that, I do not cease to feel amazed and grateful that my love is shared – my love for Bogdan, my love for my parents & wonderful friends with whom I collect smiles and memories for eternity.

At the age of 25, more than anything I have, it’s all about everything I am - I am a happy person who feels the fulfillment of every day - who enjoys it and works to preserve it and cultivate it further. I am so lucky to have taken thin good and bright road, which I did not work for in vain, and I’m lucky to have missed most of this world’s evils.

I am loved and surrounded by good, warm and beautiful people who have made me what I am, who make me what I will become. And that means, in fact, that I’m living my dream now.

Thank you.
