Când pe uși scrie doar: ”Nu deranjați!”/ When All The Doors Say "Do Not Disturb!"

Aici a apărut problema!

***

I began, last week, to tell you how I started the long journey to Lyon or, more exactly, to an Erasmus grant. After a joy tantamount to a child's when getting the best toy in the world, I entered the  beautiful world of bureaucracy, and so I started all the necessary steps.

First, I filled in a form on the website of the university where I was going to study. A detailed form in which I have written about myself - my knowledge, my data, my chosen field of study, and, also, the length of my stay in Lyon. Here there was a problem! The coordinators of the Erasmus programme from SNSPA told me that I can't leave for a full year because the partnership between them and the Lumiere 2 University was signed for 4 semesters for the course I wanted to do.(?!)

This meant they could only send 4 students (two for the first semester and two for the second semester), but couldn’t send 3 students (one for the first semester, one for the second, and one for the full year), even though the two semesters would have been completely covered. I was sent along with my unanswered questions from one desk to another without actually getting a straight answer. Among this whole mistery I started questioning if it was worth the effort, so many questions and the attempt to get answers…

It didn’t matter that I was accepted in the Erasmus programme for Lyon with the highest grade, nor that not all the places had been occupied. All this was eating at me and I wished nothing else than for a clear situation and a bit of certainty. I cannot understand, nor explain, even now, something that even I wasn’t explained properly. Why wasn’t I told when they checked my application that I can’t go for a full year? Questions without answers and headaches.

I felt like a soprano among spectators who couldn’t hear or see me. I felt overwhelmed by the situation, devoid of power and somehow puzzled by where were my efforts and “talks” with the Erasmus reprezentatives going. They, who had to lead us and help us find a solution to everything, weren’t doing anything except uttering rules – the same rules and the ideea that they had to be respected no matter what.

The solution I found was to leave for a semester and then apply for a second one at the University in Lyon and SNSPA, then hope that I will be accepted and that I will receive the grant from the European Comission.

But emotions were still young and everything seemed so complicated that I couldn’t figure out where had the quiet gone or where should I go to stop myself from running into such indiference and disorganisation again… Maybe the french have it better…
